It is entirely possible to use HAVS Protect in secure facilities because no location data is used or stored. The sensor does not have location tracking capabilities (it lacks GPS), and the app does not require or process location information, even if permissions are granted.

HAVS Protect is developed and owned by a fully Swedish company. No other foreign entities have any interests in the company or its group, covering both hardware and software.

Considerations for Android Devices in Secure Facilities

When an Android device scans for BLE devices, it reveals nearby devices. This can be used to estimate the device's geographical location, especially if BLE beacons are present. Android treats this as a potential privacy risk.

As a result, location permissions are required to safeguard user privacy, even if the app does not directly use location data.

Android 6.0 and Later (API 23+)

• Location permissions became mandatory for BLE scanning to prevent apps from indirectly collecting location data without the user's knowledge.

Android 10 (API 29)

• The system began requiring "Allow all the time" permission for apps that need continuous BLE scanning in the background.

Android 12 (API 31) and Later

• Google separated certain BLE-related permissions from location permissions:
  • BLUETOOTH_SCAN and BLUETOOTH_CONNECT are now required for BLE functionality.
  • Location permissions are only necessary if BLE scanning is used to determine the device's geographic location (e.g., with beacons).
